   Meet the
author ...

Joe Reese is a retired college teacher, writer, storyteller and full-time visiting author, who especially loves discussing writing with elementary school students around the country. He currently lives in Athens, OH.

Mr. Reese has published two 'Katie Dee'
series novels as well as numerous plays,
short stories, articles and essays. You
can hire Mr. Reese to spend a day at your
school or library, working with elementary
students in a number of ways.

  • Storytelling from Katie Dee and Katie Haw: Letters from
    a Texas Farm Girl
  • Half day or full day creative writing workshops, in which
students create heroes, villains, and settings
  • Small group discussions about the process of publication,
and tricks of getting into print
  • Folksinging for little ones. Sing along songs ("The Fox Went
out on a Winter's Night," "Frog went a' Courtin"), and other
songs to get younger students involved with the guitar and
    interactive singing

"The students and staff of the AWTY International School cannot stop talking about the visit of Joe Reese. Mr. Reese was able to capture the attention and excite the imagination of our third, fourth, and fifth graders. The day was a total success and every kid wanted to own and read Letters from a Farm Girl. We are making plans to invite Mr. Reese next school year for the presentation of his new book and for his writing workshop."

Florence Swanson
Librarian, AWTY School of Houston

"Thank you so much for bringing your stories of Katie Dee to our students. They love hearing about her life on the farm and are still talking about the possum story you so vividly shared with them. You were great!"

Dianne Weber

"Joe, you are a fabulous author! Thank you for inspiring us to use our creativity and for giving us a desire to enrich the writing process for our students.

"Joe Reese spent a wonderfully entertaining and informative day with our students! His talents as a storyteller kept the children spellbound as well as his straightforward, honest answers to the students' questions. The ultimate compliment was paid to Mr. Reese by one of our fifth graders when he said, 'Mr. Reese has inspired me to become a writer.'"

Janell Ray
Librarian, The Honor Roll School
Houston, Texas

"The kids were glued to Mr. Reese as he wove his tale of opossum shenanigans. The opportunity for the kids to ask questions of Mr. Reese was wonderful... We will definitely invite Mr. Reese again."
